The winning shoebox in the 2007 County Competition now has a new role. It has rejected most of its original contents but retained its decorations and photographs and is full of gifts travelling 6,300 miles to Helmand Province in Afghanistan. The little box accompanied by 3 table loads of treats for British troops was handed over to "Thank the Forces" representative Sue Smith at the Feb 2008 meeting. Chapter 2. News from home ? We now have a new pen pal. He is Sgt Matt Powell who was delighted to receive the box of gifts and wrote, " The boys were talking about what you get up to at the WI and we would all like to hear a bit more about it". Chapter 3. Iron rations?... Not from this WI. Following further correspondence 16 home-baked cakes have been sent, which will be judged by the troops. Members wait with baited breath!
Chapter 4. And the Cake Competition
Results are.......
1st Sue's Lemon drizzle cake. 2nd Valerie's Swedish apple cake. 3rd Mary's Rich frit cake with nut topping. Everyone thought the Desert Cake Judging Competion was a great success.
