Christmas Lunch to be announced

REPORT ON FEBRUARY MEETINGWe were rather wary of our meeting date of February 2nd as the weather was uncertain. We had to abandon the January meeting because of the heavy fall of snow (fortunately we had just finished the business) and the February meeting of 2009 was cancelled altogether. So it was with great relief that all went well and members were rewarded with an excellent presentation by Mr Cliff Dargonne.
Cliff has visited us before – taking us up Everest in very low temperatures. This visit he took us up the Carstensz Pyramid in very high temperatures, so different from a dull and damp February evening.
Cliff is only one of 250 climbers who have successfully scaled the “Seven Summits”; the highest mountain in each of the seven continents – North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Africa and Australasia. The Carstensz Pyramid is in Papua, Australasia, and a country that is difficult to gain entry. Because of the delays obtaining permits, flights etc. he and his climbing companions were able to spend time in Bali seeking out the temples and examples of Bali life, and in Papua itself were made much of by one of the local tribes that lives very much as they have done for thousands of years.
Good speakers always gather a group of members eager to ask questions and generally talk individually, and Cliff is one such.
