Green Hearts

For the past couple of years on Valentine’s Day, WI members have been busy creating green hearts to show their love and support for people, plants and places threatened by Climate Change.

We know that some of WI members already take part, but this year the WIST team are joining in. We are holding two days of drop in sessions at Hailsham ESFWI HQ early in February.

We invite you to join us in knitting, stitching, crocheting, embroidering and any other form of creativity to produce as many green hearts as we can. It’s also a chance for those of you who have never been to ESFWI HQ to come and have a look and meet other members for a natter over a needle while enjoying a little light refreshment.

We’ll have a stash of materials but please feel free to bring your own. You’ll be able to take something you have made plus some ideas back to your WI to help spur on other members to be part of the Climate Change campaign, and maybe your WI will be holding its own Green Hearts Day on 14 February.

Visit to The Wallace Collection

Guided by an expert we saw fabulous interiors with lavish drapes and silk walls, which all helped to create the most awesome backdrop to a seemingly never ending supply of paintings, furniture, porcelain and artefacts. I am sure the Laughing Cavalier even enjoyed our visit as he certainly smirked in our direction. What fun as well as an inspirational educational treat!

“Absolutely Fabulous”

The newly formed Uckfield Divas WI were out in force on Monday 4th July to see the Absolutely Fabulous movie.
With 75 ladies the Uckfield Picture House allocated them the whole of screen 2.
A glass of bubbly was served on arrival as the ladies took their seats to enjoy the movie.
With many dressed in keeping with the film, the committee was on the look out for the best dressed WI member and a prize will be given out at the next meeting.

South of England Show 2016 Results

Well done to all those WIs who entered items for the South of England Show in June and congratulations to those who achieved a rosette. The standard was high as usual with some wonderful displays, greatly enjoyed by members of the public. Here is the full list of the Results of Countrystyle

Afternoon with the Antiques!

Mike and Martin, two antique dealers, shared their expertise and provided us with an informative and enjoyable afternoon. Whilst no-one had their fortunes radically changed, we were certainly richer in knowledge! Thanks to Harbour WI as without them we would not have access to such a lovely venue and, more importantly, they were prepared to provide such delicious cakes, all beautifully presented. Lastly, thanks to the 75 ladies for coming as without their support and generosity these events would not be possible. We have had to turn 20 ladies away, so we will explore running a similar event again.

April is MCS Month

The MCS (Membership Communication System) is an important tool used to keep correct and up-to-date records of every member. When a new member joins, her details should be entered onto the MCS and once this is done, she will be sent her new member’s welcome pack and begin receiving WI Life. It is also important that each WI has the correct information listed for its Secretary to ensure the WI does not miss out on National mailings, voucher books and raffle tickets.

All WIs are encouraged to appoint an MCS Rep to look after their records and there is a useful help guide in the WIST (WI Support Team) page on this website. If you do not have an MCS Rep, contact the office with the member’s details and they will be pleased to help you.

Don’t forget that lapsed members must be marked as inactive and there is also a function to allocate roles to members.

The MCS is also used to gain individual access to the WI Moodle by making the member an ‘online learner’.
