East Sussex Federation

A Letter from Gill

Dear Members,

Four years have now passed since I became the Federation County Chairman in 2016. So, it is time to say goodbye and hand over to our new Chairman, Anita Jobling. Congratulations, Anita, on your new appointment. I wish you and the newly-elected Board of Trustees all the very best for the future.

I have had an amazing time whilst in office with so many happy memories that I have shared with you, the members. Thank you sincerely to all the WIs that have welcomed me so graciously, giving me tea and cake, and also many magnificent celebration cakes to cut on your special occasions. I also remember with great fondness the good times spent with some very inspirational women within the WI who I thank so much for all their friendship, laughter and sometimes tears that we have shared together, especially during this last difficult year, your support has been very much appreciated.

I have been very fortunate to have had Vicky, our Federation Secretary by my side, and also had the pleasure of working with Judy and Vanessa in the office, a great team, thank you to you all.

I am thinking of you all during this terrible situation we find ourselves in at the moment. Be strong, keep smiling and we will get through this together in true WI spirit.

Very best wishes
Gill Nokes

The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.
So true at this moment in time. Stay in, stay safe.

Congratulations to Anita, a long standing member and stalwart of our Federation and also to the other officers and trustees who serve the members in our lovely county.   We welcome Trudy and Hilary to the Federation Board and welcome back Kim Dunn who was previously on ESFWI BoT.

But we also say a sad Au Revoir (certainly not Goodbye) to Gill Nokes, who has been our Chairman for the past four years.  She has lead us and entertained us through some very busy but also enjoyable times.  You will see her at the postponed Annual Meeting on 30 September where we can all give her our thanks for her leadership and dedication to the WI.

Following the address by the Prime Minister last night we are sorry to announce that ESFWI HQ will be closed after today (Tuesday 24 March) until further notice and so the office will no longer be manned.

If any member has an urgent enquiry you can email Vicky, the Federation Secretary, on vboothwi@gmail.com.

Even though these are extraordinary times please note that WIs should still keep a record of their decision to cancel WI meetings and it should be minuted either as a separate report or in your Committee minutes and should be kept with your meeting records and committee papers.
Please note that if the decision was taken using phone/email/digital media you can add this information to the form.

Finally, if you are still waiting for a refund for a cancelled event (such as for the NFWI Tickets and coach fare) you will receive your payment, but it may not be for a week or more. Please bear with us.

Keep your eye on this website and the East Sussex Federation of WIs Facebook page for future updates.

To all our WI Members, stay safe!

East Sussex Federation of WIs Annual Meeting 25 March 2020 – CORONAVIRUS

After a great deal of discussion the East Sussex Board of Trustees have taken the decision to postpone the ESFWI Annual Meeting until Wednesday 30 September 2020.     This decision was taken entirely with the health of the WI members in mind and taking into consideration that some members will be wondering whether they should attend, especially if they have any health issues.

The meeting will remain the same as advertised and has just been moved six months down the line.   All Delegates’ and Observers’ Agendas (tickets) and lunch vouchers will still be valid for the new date, so members should retain these tickets to use at the September meeting.

Anyone who is unable/does not wish to attend the postponed meeting should return their Agenda and lunch voucher (if applicable) to ESFWI HQ and we will refund their payment. As we had filled all the places for the March meeting any returned agendas can then be offered for sale to other members.

Should a WI Delegate be unable to attend they can pass on their Agenda to another member to take their place and they do not need to notify ESFWI.

We are so sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and your WI and hope that all those who applied for the March meeting will still be able to join us in September.
