Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club

On Wednesday 24 October Leisure and Learning are planning a fantastic event, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of (some) women getting the vote. Also, of course, 2017 was the Centenary of the Sussex Federation, and we will celebrate 100 years of our East Sussex Federation in 2019.
Held at the Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club in Eastbourne, you’ll have a chance to hear our own Anne Stamper, WI historian and former County Archivist. She’ll tell us about the founders of the WI who had been involved in the suffrage movement and how newly formed WIs worked together to influence decision makers. Anne will share stories of the activities of the early East Sussex members and we shall hear of some of the successes which continue to this day through our campaigns at both local and National level. Anyone who has heard one of Anne’s talks will know she is a very interesting and compelling speaker.
Our special guest speaker will be Katy Bourne, the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, who will tell us what it is really like to be a woman at the top – in what is still a male-dominated environment. Katy was elected to what was then a new role in 2012, and was re-elected in 2016.
Places are limited for this event, so apply quickly.
