Charles Hunt Centre, Vicarage Lane, Hailsham BN27 1BG

When to come along

2nd Thursday of every month at 7.30pm.

About Us

We are a relatively new WI which formed in March 2017. Our name was chosen by members to recognise the importance of the ropemaking industry to the town over many, many years.

We are a modern and informal WI with our members covering a wide age range. We have 45 members with average attendance at meetings of 25 to 30. Our annual programme aims to reflect the interests and suggestions of our members and, while we have kept some WI traditions such as the singing of Jerusalem and cake at any suitable opportunity, we welcome the opportunity to try new things.

What we do

Topics for monthly meetings can vary widely from talks by charities and local groups, drumming and self-defence demonstrations and guest speakers.

In addition to our regular monthly meetings we have a very lively craft group and a book group which both meet monthly and a supper group that meets bi-monthly visiting local restaurants. We also hope to develop our fledgling walking group in the coming months.

We hold fundraising events from time to time. A recent very successful auction raised funds our group and for two local charities chosen by members.

In addition to everything Ropemakers WI have to offer members can also take advantage of courses, events and outings arranged by East Sussex Federation of WIs throughout the year.
