Where we meet
Village Hall, Ringmer, BN8 5QH
When to come along
1st Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm
We welcome new member and visitors alike. Come along to meet us as a visitor first. Visitors and Newcomers will be introduced to a “buddy” for the evening to make you feel part of the group.
We are a well established WI and have had a presence in Ringmer for 99 years. We are beginning to plan for our centenary as Ringmer WI and Ringmer Evening WI. A lot of our members have been part of the WI for many years and want to encourage new members to pass on the group to. We have a few younger members but would like to encourage more to mix with the existing member to help us grow in strength and numbers. We have approximately 30 members at present but there is plenty of room for new members and new ideas. We often share transport to different events.
What we do
At our monthly meetings we have speakers of interest but also social evenings where we can get to know each other. We have our birthday meeting and a social time in the December meeting. Members are kept up to date with our What’s (going) On leaflet each month.
Groups meet at other times within the month. These include a walking group who walk locally, often stopping at the end for a coffee. The craft group meets in a member’s home where we often do our own crafts and learn from each other but also work together for things like green hearts. We try to organise trips to the local amateur dramatics and also to places of interest.
We like to take part in the village quiz in aid of the local hospice.
We support local incentives like the community library by holding coffee mornings and donating the money raised.
We have a yearly spring fair which is well attended and supported by the village. We are looking forward to arranging more village based events.
We actively take part in the south of England show entering the craft classes.
Our WI is a member of the Castle group and meet twice a year with them. The group also gets together at Christmas for social time.
We offer opportunities to attend courses but with the county and national federations, also at Denman college.
